KnowledgeBase → Disable automatic "Free upgrade to Windows 10" advertisements
Sometimes the automatic update Service for Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 bombards the user with options to upgrade to Windows 10, and in some rare cases starts the upgrade process automatically. This is undesireable in many cases:
- the hardware doesn't have sufficient power and/or resources to support Windows 10
- an application isn't compatible with Windows 10
- such an upgrade conflicts with corporate policies
- the user doesn't want Windows 10
To prevent the Windows automatic update Service from even attempting to introduce Windows 10 upgrade options, disable the GWX setting in the Windows Registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; Downloaded from: https://www.inter-corporate.com/kb/disable-gwx.pl [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsGwx] "DisableGwx"=dword:00000001
